Summer Affair 2019 - The Most Okayist Time Ever

I spent my weekend with the most okayist bunch of people ever at Summer Affair 2019.

If you are not hip to what we refer to as 'RollerCon of the Midwest', you have to get hip to this event fast!

Summer Affair in Tallmadge, Ohio is put on by the Cleveland Guardians Roller Derby and it is a weekend in August full of learning from top athletes in roller derby, tournament style bouts that skaters are able to jump in, and having fun with all of your roller derby pals. Summer Affair is mainly headed by Gary Sweatt (London Mauling) of the Cleveland Guardians and is known as the most "ok".

Sailor's Mouth Yoga was back for the second year in a row to Friday night and Saturday morning and I had a wonderful time introducing people to Sailor's Mouth Yoga. We also had so many beer koozies for our friends in so many different colors it was crazy.

And for fun, I even jumped in on a few games to announce while I used my sound effects app on my phone to communicate what was happening on the track. Basically, I kept using the Owen Wilson, "wow", way too many times. But thanks to head announcer & hurder of cats, Champ UnKind, for encouraging the silliness and pulling together such an outstanding announcer crew. For real, I'm not just saying that because I was a part of the announcer pool.

I am so glad that we were able to have a laidback weekend with so many skaters from around the Midwest and beyond. Also, I want to thank Gary Sweatt for making this event possible. Bringing in a crew of talented athletes, NSOs, announcers, EMTs, and various other fun people is not an easy task, but you are pretty okay at it.

See you all at Summer Affair 2020!
